The sign for the South African Garden was attached to the fence dividing the sidewalk from the plant exhibits.
That sign read in part:
"The level of diversity of plant life in South Africa is among the
greatest in the world. In San Francisco we are fortunate to have the
climatic conditions necessary to grow plants from this biodiversity hotspot."
The pink ice protea with its distinctive stalks, and dramatic pink blooms (currently absent).
A large limestone cornbush plant displayed its dramatic orange flowers.
A group of small starter plants were planted just behind the fence and grew low to the ground.
