Shelves, Generally

In the 1960s, a cheap set of shelving could be created from stained pine
planks and cinder blocks. Later, as wood became more expensive, pine planks
gave way to composition board that sagged over time.

A Formica kitchen counter, as with all kitchen counters, become both
a working surface and a storage shelf. Over time, as more gadgets are
purchases, the working surface reduces in size as the storage role overtakes it.

A bookcase is one form of shelf that is never sufficient. Here, as more and more books
were acquired, new books were piled horizontally in front of the old, thereby creating
imperfect access to both.

The old prison used to hand out pillows, sheets and blankets to prisoners from this room.
This was a mock up of what it looked like back when this was a functioning prison.

Empty shelves appeared well constructed but poorly painted. There was no indication of what may
have been stored here when the prison still functioned.
